+
+I'm thinking that we need to have a category on the main page called "Articles". The two articles I've written don't really fit into the normal FAQ's. Should FAQ's be fairly brief concise statements on popular little problems? For example, "What's the default user name and password?" would be an FAQ. "Is My Router Bricked" can hardly be an FAQ (It's frequently asked, yes) but the explanation for that one is a long one. Is that OK? Do we need a brief explanation and a more detailed one?
 +
 +
+Well there is a on the main page for miscellaneous articles, yours would probably fit best there. As for the FAQ I think it would be best to keep them short and to the point but leave a link at the bottom to an article that goes more into detail about the subject should the person require more information. --Interex Agreed! --AycheKay

+We could have one article that talks about accessing the GUI, using a static IP in the correct schema, default user name and password, "Are the lights blinking", don't use the setup CD, don't use the SES button on the front, etc. This article would help newbies figure out how to get into the router, how to tell if it's bricked, all the common little complaints etc. But this is almost too large for an FAQ? Or is it.
 +
 +
+Yeah that might be too large for a FAQ, that would probably fit best under the Guides section located in . Hmm, might want to add a new index to the front, something like New to DD-WRT and place it under there? --Interex

[edit] New Russian MainPage

I'm working on translation and optimisation of Russian part of Wiki, please, link to that new version DD-WRT_(RU) from Main_Page

[edit] New link to categories on main page

It's a bit of a mess to find the list of various router manufacturers and the various tutorials for all their models from the current main page. The various hardware specific guides can be found via the Miscellaneous page: Miscellaneous

[edit] Language mess

I find a lot of articles written in a lot of languages on the same page.. maybe should be good to start using locale aware articles. --jbrazio 00:02, 3 January 2009 (CET)

[edit] Front page suggestion

I like the skin, and the front page layout is very similar to what we ended up with at wiki.mythtv.org, but I do have one suggestion.

In between the welcome/language box, and the Category/TOC box, I would add something like this:

DD-WRT is independently developed, third-party firmware for wireless routers. It works on many consumer-market routers from Linksys, Belkin, Buffalo Technologies, Netgear and others, as well as many single-board computers for custom projects. A complete list of supported devices is here. DD-WRT provides greater control, flexibility and features than the firmware supplied with most routers, and is free under the GPL.

In point of fact, the main site homepage could use an About link that points to that as well, or the copy in-line. Not everyone knows exactly what it is, even after they get here.

[edit] Main Page Organization

As for the FAQ I think it would be best to keep them short and to the point but leave a link at the bottom to an article that goes more into detail about the subject should the person require more information. --Interex Agreed! --AycheKay

We could have one article that talks about accessing the GUI, using a static IP in the correct schema, default user name and password, "Are the lights blinking", don't use the setup CD, don't use the SES button on the front, etc. This article would help newbies figure out how to get into the router, how to tell if it's bricked, all the common little complaints etc. But this is almost too large for an FAQ? [edit] Server Upgrade

Looks like the version of software running on this server is pretty old. Some of the new features make usability much better. I'm available to do upgrades if we want to go that route. --Lullabud 05:31, 21 Nov 2006 (CET)
