How to set up WOL (Wake On Lan)

To make Wake On Lan work even if your router is rebooted follow these instructions:

  • It's a good idea to test WOL-functionality of the target computer first (e.g. by a second directly connected computer).
  • Choose an ip address not used by any computer in the local network (e.g. 192.168.0.254)
  • Create a port forward rule on the Web_Interface (Applications & Gaming -> Port Range Forward) to the chosen ip:
wol | 9 | 9 | udp | 192.168.0.254 | x

(you can choose any unused port instead of 9 here)
  • Add a static ARP entry by typing these commands one by one on the Web_Interface (Administration -> Diagnostics) and save with Save Startup:
ip neigh change 192.168.0.254 lladdr ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff nud permanent dev br0
ip neigh add 192.168.0.254 lladdr ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff nud permanent dev br0

(ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff stands for the mac-address of the computer to wake up)
  • To wake your computer from the internet try Mestrona's online WOL. You need to set port 9 to use this service.

Special thx go to Scatman (svenlange)
