+If you have Problems to see your Neighbourhood or Programs like VNC,Remote Desktop are not working, than you should Disable the Loopback Adapter under Management.asp in your Router. If it does not work, than it is also useful to edit your new VPN Connection under Properties TCP/IP - Advanced - and select use Standard Gateway of the Remote Network. With this Option you are full inside the Routers Network, all Traffic include your Surfing is than over your VPN Connect. With both Settings, you are full integrated in the Remote Lan.

On DD-WRT, set pptp server to active, set IP of router (192.168.1.1), set range for connections(192.168.1.20-29) example of ten client set up.

Set up Chap Secret ex. ( testmachine * password1234 *) All done here. ( The "*" are NOT a Placeholder, they must be there ! )

Goto PC and select Create new Connection in Network Connection area. Select Connect to Network at my Workplace, select Virtual Private Connection, give it a name (home link).

Select what applies, dial up or LAN. Type WAN IP address (10.28.44.71) Must be static address. [loxza says that s/he has had luck with dynamic IP using dyndns.org]

Then at connect window, type name and password (testmachine password1234). Use no capital letters.

There is more info on winxp VPN at <[1]> under PPTP VPN.
