Firmware is in the netgear-r6400 directory, and has been supported in DD-WRT since build 29968. KONG builds may also be used. (K3-AC-ARM folder). See Where do I download firmware? for links to both Kong and regular (Brainslayer) builds.

  • Use the .chk file to flash from the OEM firmware GUI, then reset afterward: see below.
  • Use the webupgrade file to upgrade to a newer version of dd-wrt.

Reset methods

DO NOT 30-30-30 Reset ARM Devices

GUI Reset

To restore default nvram settings either:

  • Select the factory reset option from the firmware upload GUI drop-down menu:
    • Administration->Firmware Upgrade
    • Select the firmware file and "reset to defaults" from the drop-down menu, then click Upgrade
  • ...or use the reset to default settings option:
    • Administration->Factory Defaults
    • Select radio button, then Apply settings

Command Line Interpreter (CLI) Reset

Telnet (or SSH, if enabled) to the device and see Erasing NVRAM, as this is build-dependent.

Reset Button

With the firmware is running normally, hold the reset button until the lights flash (10-20 seconds).

Reset notes

In February 2015 Kong stated a reset is required for certain upgrades, such as certain wireless driver updates]. While not usually necessary, reset and manual configuration should be performed if any issues are encountered, and only report issues after this is done. Do NOT restore an nvram backup (NVRAMBAK) from previous builds in these cases, as it will undo the reset.
