Watch out what version and manufacture date you get with the WRT600N. I purchased this router a week ago and ended up with Version 1.1 build in March 2008 with firmware release 1.01.35 build 5. This firmware isn't listed on Linksys website. The problem with this router is buggy firmware that can not be upgraded or downgraded using TFTP or using the Linksys GUI!! I contacted Linksys and without much of a problem they promptly issued an RMA to replace the router. The Linksys tech mentioned that there is a problem with this router and firmware upgrades are not possible. Nice one Linksys!!! Watch out what version and manufacture date you get with the WRT600N. Anyway, if you are unfortunate enough to end up with version 1.1 with build 5 and can't RMA the unit go over to DD-WRT forums. The fine folks over there found away to upgrade the firmware through a Java exploit.

There is a version 1.1 being shipped with firmware 1.01.36 build 3. This one is okay and the firmware can be flashed using TFTP or using the Linksys upgrade GUI. Again for some reason 1.01.36 build 3 isn’t posted on Linksys web site.

I bought the V1.1 made in March 2008 with 1.01.36 build 3 on there. Trying to flash through GUI is definitely not possible still.

However, the Traceroute exploit in DD-WRT forum allowed me to flash to DD-WRT RC-7, and I ended up with a router without wired LAN (common issue on the WRT600N).

Basically, anything that bears the serial number MNR008309xxx or above is guarantee to have a hard time.
