-Comment [[User:dgrosenberger|dgrosenberger]] October 2010: I followed the directions above exactly, including using the file version linked above, to flash my WRT54G v2.2 (it still had the original linksys firmware), and everything went flawless. This page and the first couple parts of the peacock thread are all you should need to read if you have the same hardware.

-I then used the directions at http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Repeater_Bridge to setup the repeater bridge to my main router and they worked perfectly also. I had my Xbox and DVR hooked up to the new router and working within 20 minutes of finishing the flash.

Installation

NOTE: For flashing, only connect the device to the computer.

  1. Read the Peacock announcement
  2. Connect the computer via cable to a LAN port of your router. Do NOT use wireless.
  3. Set a static IP on your computer (e.g. 192.168.1.7, subnet mask 255.255.255.0)
  4. Do a hard reset on the router
  5. Open the Linksys webgui at 192.168.1.1: if a Management Mode page open, power cycle again
  6. Leave the username blank and enter "admin" as the password
  7. Go to Administration->Firmware Upgrade and select 14929 dd-wrt.v24_mini_wrt54g.bin
  8. Click Upgrade then when complete, wait FIVE FULL minutes
    • If not successful, clear browser cache and repeat from step 6
  9. Access the dd-wrt GUI at 192.168.1.1, and reset the router again
  10. At this point you can flash a different build, depending on your needs
  11. Reset your computer ethernet connection to auto IP and DNS

Reverting to OEM

  1. Download and unzip OEM firmware WRT54G_v4.21.1_fw.zip
  2. As above, reset then go to the DD-WRT GUI, enter a username/password
  3. Go to Administration->Firmware Upgrade and select WRT54G_v4.21.1_fw.bin
  4. Click Upgrade then when complete, wait FIVE FULL minutes
  5. Access the Linksys webgui at 192.168.1.1, and reset the router again
  6. Reset your computer ethernet connection to auto IP and DNS
