[edit] Installation Procedure

Only use Broadcom_K26 firmware images for v2 310N routers, DO NOT FLASH K3.x. REF: this forum post

Pre-requisites:

  1. Download the "trailed" version for the initial flash (filename will end with "_K2.6_mini_wrt310nv2.bin")

Procedure:

  1. Set a static IP address on your PC or laptop (e.g. 192.168.1.2)
  2. Place the router in Management Mode
    • Method 1: Do a 30-30-30 hard reset
      While on, push and hold down the reset button continuously for 30 seconds, unplug the power while continuing to hold for another 30 seconds, then plug back in while continuing to hold reset button for a final 30 seconds. (90 second button hold-down time)
    • Method 2: Do a 30-5-5 reset
      While on, push and hold down the reset button continuously for 30 seconds, unplug the power while continuing to hold for another 5 seconds, then plug back in while continuing to hold reset button for a final 5 seconds.
    • Method 3: Plug the router in with the reset button held down for 5 seconds and immediately release.
  3. Go to http://192.168.1.1/ and you'll see a "management" page with two options, to upload a new firmware and Reset NVRAM.

[edit] Upgrading DD-WRT

  1. Download the desired generic release for upgrading (filename will not have wrt310nv2 in the name).
    • Be sure you understand which version (mini, small etc) is compatible with this router.
    • Read Note 4 in the Peacock thread and then reference the K26 Comparison Table
    • Current recommended release 14929 files from the Peacock thread can be found here
    • Release 15940 is reported stable in the forum and was the only release referenced on this page before editing on 2011-05-30. Files can be found here
      (Leaving this from previous page edit - You may flash r15940/broadcom_K26/dd-wrt.v24-15940_NEWD-2_K2.6_std_nokaid_small.bin if you want IPv6 support)
    • NOTE: build 33679 std_nokaid_small works with this router here [2]
  2. Go to http://192.168.1.1/ (or whatever IP address you assigned to the router if not 192.168.1.1)

  1. Method 1: Management Mode
    Put the router in Management Mode as described above and perform the installation procedure as described using stock firmware or the initial flash file above.
  2. Method 2:TFTP Flash
    Flash the router with stock firmware via TFTP. REF: Upgrading the router’s firmware using the TFTP utility
    Repeat initial installation procedure and upgrade to a known good build.
  3. Method 3: Serial Recovery
