NOTE: This was tried on a Fonera using 02/18 firmware and just caused it to brick itself. A reset (hold down button for ~70 secs until WAN light flashes) was needed to re-gain access to the Fonera. It may work on later releases...

Client Mode

With this function LaFonera acts as a client in your already existing wireless lan. So the Internet/LAN port can be used as a RJ-45 port without direct wired connection to the main AP/Router.

It has to be said, that this is no wireless lan bridging: You use LaFonera as a connection between the router and other _wired_ devices. This is useful if you have a lot of cables running thorugh your house floor and your grandma falls over it every second day ;-)

Requirements

1. A AccessPoint with a secured or unsecured activated wireless lan.

2. A " LaFonera" router with DD-WRT

3. LaFonera has to be able to receive the wlan signal of the 'first' AP

Instructions

Well, the basic requirement is that you have already a running wireless lan. I would advice you to secure it with WPA or WPA2.

Unless mentioned, keep settings as default

1. Under the setup tab, give the fon address the same ip address as the router you want to repeat but change the third field to 10. So if your main router is 192.168.1.1 your fon will be 192.168.10.1

2. Under the security tab select disable firewall.

3. Under the wireless tab, set wireless mode to client, change the SSID to the network you want to repeat.

4. Under the wireless tab, click to add a virtual interface. Give it a new ssid, set ssid broadcast enabled, set mode to AP, set AP isolation to disabled.

5. Under wireless tab, click wireless security subtab. Set physical interface settings to match the security settings of the router to be repeated.

One thing to note, the fon will not broadcast it's ssid until it's connected to the main router

That should be it. You should now have the physical interface set as a client for the main router and the virtual interface will be a dhcp server sending out the ssid you set under the virtual interface setting.
