Here is a quick howto for installing DD-WRT on a D-Link dir-615 D3 (I have the German version and so it goes that the inital flash did not work initially..) but then I downloaded the howto upgrade from the German D-Link site and learnt the following trick:

  1. download the applicable firmware (I used dlink-dir615d-fachtory-webflash). See Where do I download firmware? for links.
  2. open the router web interface at 192.168.0.1, goto maintainance
  3. delete the current language pack
  4. use the web unterface to "upgrade" your firmware
  5. goto 192.168.1.1 to have fun
