[edit] Initial Flashing

TFTP Method:

  1. Read the Firmware FAQ and Peacock Announcement
  2. Download a tftp program.
  3. Download dd-wrt.v24_mini_asus.trx (build 14929) for initial flash

For upgrades, use generic files in the broadcom folder. See Where do I download firmware? and Version Features for more info. Ensure build for upgrading is no bigger than 3712 KB (flash size), i.e. 3801088 bytes.

  1. Do a proper hard reset. Do not confuse the red 'EZ Setup' button with the RECESSED reset button.
  2. Do a second 30-30-30 reset, but do not power cycle it at the end. This puts the router into restoration mode. Plug a cable in the LAN port of the router to the computer (disable wireless) with nothing else connected to either device.
  3. Set the computer to a static IP address of 192.168.1.7 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.
  4. Start the tftp.exe and follow the instructions in note 11 of the Peacock Announcement. Set the server to 192.168.1.1, leave the password blank, set retries to 20, and select the mini_asus.trx file.
  5. Click Upgrade and WAIT AT LEAST FIVE FULL MINUTES or the router could brick. WAIT!
  6. The LAN port will remain lit after the upgrade, but no other lights will light and there is no sign the firmware is flashing.
  7. Once the time is up, power cycle the router and navigate to 192.168.1.1 (refresh until the DD-WRT GUI appears)
  8. Type a username and password in the opening page, then reset the router again.
  9. Login to the router and enter a username and password, then set up accordingly.

[edit] Upgrade running DD-WRT

  1. Download this file if you have not already: for USB support use a broadcom folder usb_generic.bin file.
    1. Other generic files can be used instead as long as they are not over 3712 KB.
  2. Under the Administration -> Firmware Upgrade tab, choose "Reset to default configuration" then Upgrade the firmware.
  3. Wait at least five full minutes again.
    1. If uploading via the web does not work, try tftp like in Initial Flashing.
  4. Type a username and password in the opening page, then reset the router again.
  5. Login to the router and enter a username and password, then set up accordingly.
  6. Set your computer back to auto IP and DNS.
